Help with Kinetic: how to reach us, what each permission is for, battery, where your data lives, how to delete it, and the Apple Watch app.
The short version
- Email us at kinetic.health.app@gmail.com, or tap Email Us in Kinetic’s menu.
- No account, so there’s nothing to log in to or reset.
- Your data is on your iPhone, backed up to your own iCloud Drive. We never see it.
- Delete everything from inside the app, any time.
Is Kinetic free?
Yes, Kinetic is free for now, with no subscription, no in-app purchases, no account and no ads. Premium features like themes, trends, a custom passcode and longevity are already in the app, and they’re free for now too. If you download Kinetic by November 30, 2026, you’ll keep premium features free for a year after premium launches. See the terms for details.
Get in touch
Kinetic is made by one person, Matthew Harrison. The quickest way to get help is to email kinetic.health.app@gmail.com.
You can also send a message from inside the app: open Kinetic's menu and tap Email Us or Feature Request. Your mail app opens with one line already filled in, naming your Kinetic and iOS versions, so we know which build you're on. Nothing else from the app is attached.
There's no account, so we can't look you up, and we never see your data. If something looks wrong, a description or a screenshot helps a lot. Only send what you're happy to share.
Permissions
Kinetic asks for three permissions on your iPhone. They're all optional, and you can change them at any time in Settings.
- Motion & Fitness counts your steps and tells a walk from a drive. It can read the last week back right away.
- Location turns your movement into places and trips, and names where you went.
- Apple Health adds workouts, sleep, heart rate and more. It's read-only: Kinetic never writes to Health.
If you turn one off, Kinetic can't log that part of your day automatically. To change them, open Settings > Privacy & Security and choose Motion & Fitness, Location Services or Health.
Why does Kinetic ask for Always location?
So it can keep building your day when the app is closed. With Always, Kinetic notices new places and traces the roads you travel, without you opening it. It uses real GPS while you move.
With While Using the App, Kinetic traces the roads you travel while the app is open, so places and trips made while it's closed may be missed.
iOS keeps no location history an app can look back on, so Kinetic can only log places from the moment it has access. It can't fill in where you've already been.
If you've chosen approximate location, Kinetic may ask for precise location for a short time to draw the real path of a route. Without it, routes are guessed.
Battery and Low Power Mode
Kinetic's background location pauses once your iPhone reports you've settled somewhere, and it turns off in Low Power Mode. It uses GPS while you're moving.
If places or trips are missing for a stretch of time, Kinetic shows that as a gap rather than guessing.
Where is my data?
On your iPhone, backed up to your own iCloud Drive. Kinetic has no servers, so we never see your data.
- You can see the backup in the Files app, in the Kinetic folder in iCloud Drive.
- Anything Kinetic reads or works out from Apple Health, like sleep, heart rate and workouts, is left out of the iCloud backup and out of your iPhone's device backups. It stays on your iPhone.
- Maps and place names come from Apple Maps. To show them, your iPhone sends location information directly to Apple, not to us.
Our privacy policy has the details.
How do I delete my data?
Open Kinetic's Settings and choose Delete everything. Kinetic stops recording, then erases its data on your iPhone, your Kinetic backup in iCloud, and the app's preferences. It needs to reach iCloud to remove the backup. If it can't, it tells you, and recording stays stopped until you try again.
Deleting the app removes Kinetic's data from your iPhone, but not the iCloud backup. To remove the backup on its own, open the Files app, go to iCloud Drive, and delete the Kinetic folder.
Kinetic never writes to Apple Health, so your Health data isn't affected either way.
The Apple Watch app
Kinetic's Apple Watch app measures your heart rate continuously while you exercise. It does this by running a workout session, which is why your Watch asks for Apple Health workout permission.
Kinetic throws that session away when it ends. It never saves a workout to Apple Health, and the Watch app doesn't store anything. It shows the live readout your iPhone sends it.
iCloud backup
Kinetic backs up your steps, places and trips to your own iCloud Drive. The backup is stored by Apple under your Apple Account. We can't access it.
- To check it's there, open the Files app and look for the Kinetic folder in iCloud Drive.
- To stop backing up, turn off iCloud Drive for Kinetic in Settings: tap your name, then iCloud.
- Health data isn't in the backup, by design. Anything Kinetic reads or works out from Apple Health stays on your iPhone.
Requirements
Kinetic is for iPhone, running iOS 18 or later. It includes a Home Screen widget, a Live Activity and an Apple Watch app.
